(P) Jack and the Baked Beanstalk By Colin Stimpson (Fractured Fairytale)
Jack, his mother, and his dog Bella live in a fast food truck that is broken down on the side of the street. They made good food, and always had a lot of happy customers to feed. One day, the city decided to build an overpass, so that people to get work faster. At first, Jack and his mother would serve all the workers food and business was booming. Once the overpass was finished and the workers went away, and the road was closed and no one stopped at the truck anymore. On Jacks way to the store for his mother with their last few pennies, Jack met an old man with magic baked beans. He used the last few pennies to buy the magic baked beans and ran home to his mother. Jack’s mother was mad and threw the can out of the window and sent Jack to bed. Jack awoke the next morning, to a full grown baked bean stalk outside his window. He quickly ate some beans and then went outside to try to get to the treasures at the top of the baked bean stalk. Jack and Bella reached the top, and found a huge castle. Inside the castle, there was a gigantic Giant with huge stacks of money. The Giant stopped Jack and Bella and told them to stay with the giant chicken as he got ready in the kitchen. Jack thought the Giant was going to eat them, but the chicken reassured that he just wants to make him lunch. The chicken said that the Giant does not know what to do with him so he counts his money all day in silence. Lunch was ready then, and Jack told the Giant all about life at the bottom of the beanstalk. The Giant then told Jack about his money, which Jack thought was cool, but boring. Jack realized he had to get back to him mom, and the Giant agreed that the chicken and the radio can go with Jack for a change of scenery. The Giant didn’t want to come with because he was afraid of heights, so Jack, Bella, the chicken and the radio went down the beanstalk. When the Giant was waving goodbye, he fell down the beanstalk and landed on the overpass. The Giant was upset because his beanstalk was broken, and he wouldn’t be able to go home to his money. Jack reassured him that as long he is with his friends, maybe he will find something better to do than count money. Over time, they made the Baked Beanstalk Café, and it is a very famous place. You get free baked beans and eggs all day, and get to see a giant chicken and a radio that plays music all day and of course the famous cook… The Giant.

(C) The Lightning Thief By Rich Riodan (Myth)
Percy Jackson is in 6th grade, and on a school field trip at the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is dyslexic, which is why he was placed in this boarding school. He has got kicked out of many schools before and needed to pass this final so that he wouldn’t get kicked out of this one. He was fighting with a girl at the MET when he pushed a girl into the fountain and was told by Mrs. Dodds to come here. He went with her and Mrs. Dodds turns into a scary creature and tries to attack Percy, but Mr. Brunner throws him a pen which turns into a sword and his kills the creature. He asked what just happens to Mr. Brunner, but Mr. Brunner says nothing happened and there was never a Mrs. Dodds. Later that night, he overhears his best friend Grover and his teacher talk about something. He heard Grover apologize, talk about needing to keep him alive and that there was a fury at school. There was also talk about Percy needing to mature and then Grover left. The next day after the test, the teacher says that he should not be in this school because of his dyslexia. Percy is so mad at this statement that he goes to the train station to go home. Grover meets him at the station and tries to stop him. He asks him about the furies, but Grover denies and Percy leaves from Manhattan. Percy arrives home and his mother said they are leaving to go to the beach for a couple of days. The stepdad seems abusive and demanding, but they leave anyways. When they were at the beach, she explains that is where she met his water, but he died when he got lost at sea. She explains to him that his father had picked out a school for him to go to and he should consider going to it. Grover appears at the beach house and explains that they have to leave immediately. The three of them get into car, and Percy finds out the Grover is half goat. They got into an accident and the mother was taken and thought to be killed by a bull creature. Percy destroys the creature and there is only a horn that remains. After a few days’ rest, Percy wakes up. Grover explains that he is a satyr. He explains that Mr. D is the camp director where he is at, and Mr. Brunner is Chiron. Mr. D is Dionysus and he is the son of Zeus and the God of Wine. Chiron turns into a half horse and took Percy on a tour of Camp Half-Blood. On the tour, Percy meets Annabeth, who was the girl that took care of him when he was sick. She explained to him that he is not dyslexic, his brain is hardwired for ancient Greek and that he does not have ADHD, he just has a battlefield instinct. Percy then meets Clarisse, who is the daughter of Ares. She is huge and welcomes him by trying to give him a swirly. When he reaches the water, something happens and Clarisse went down. Finally he makes it to have sleeping quarters when he meets his camp counselor Luke. Luke explains that his dad is not dead; his dad is a Greek God. He is undetermined, which means they do not know which God is his dad. Luke’s dad is Hermes, and Annabeth’s mom is Athena. Together they played capture the flag after the first week of Percy being there, and during the game he got attacked by a creature. He fell into the creek and the creature was defeated, meaning that he was the son of Poseidon the God of the Sea. Chiron explains to him that he should never be born, because the three sons of Kronos, Zeus Poseidon and Hades, made a pact that they would now bear any more half-bloods. Zeus then broke the pact when he bore a daughter named Thaila. Hades was so mad at him; he sent creatures that led to the death of his daughter. She is now the pine tree that protects the boarder of the camp. Chiron then explains that Zeus and Poseidon are fighting because someone stole his master bolt. There would be a ten day period that they would try to resolve this, but if not there would be war. Since Zeus thinks that Percy was the one that stole it, he would have to find it and return it to him. Percy continues his long journey until he makes his way to the Gods to explain everything that has happen. At camp everyone is celebrating, and Grover got his license. Percy finds out that Luke was the thief and was trying to get him killed. His mother then shows up and takes him home, and says goodbye until next summer.

(P) The Little Red Hen by Elizabeth Lane
The Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat and asked her friends to help plant it. They all said no, so she did it herself. She then harvested the wheat, carried it to the mill, mix the bread, and bake the bread.. Her friends wanted nothing to do with helping, until the bread was done and it smelled very good. Everyone wanted to help eat the bread because it smelled so good, but Little Red Hen refused to let them eat it because they did not help her at all.. She shared the bread with her chicks and ate the rest herself. bea

(P) The Orphan: A Cinderella Story from Greece By Anthony Manna
In Greece, there lived a mother, father, and pampered daughter. The mother died and in Greece when the mother dies, they call the child an orphan. The father remarried a dreadful woman with two daughters. The two daughters got everything they wanted, while the orphan barely got water to drink. The orphan went to her mother’s grave and asked her mother for help. Her mother spoke back to her and said that true fortune is on the way. The next day when the orphan began her chores, but Mother Nature decided to shower her in gifts. The sun gave her brilliance, the moon gave her beauty, and dawn bestowed gracefulness. She also received wealth, three beautiful dresses, and blue shoes for her tiny feet. She hid her treasures in the trunk. The prince was coming to church service that night, and the stepdaughters as well as the stepmothers had to look their best, so that the stepdaughters could marry the prince. After the family had left, she went to the trunk where she hid all the treasures and dressed in them. She put coins in her pocket and road away to the church. All eyes followed the beautiful stranger that walked in. The service was over and the Prince wanted to see her, but she knew she had to get home, so she threw the coins in the air and she ran away. The Prince was sad, but he was determined. He told the guards to make a mixture of honey and wax and just before the service ends to spread the layer over the church. The next Sunday the same routine happens, and when the service was over, the mixture was put on the threshold. She got stuck, but escaped with one shoe, threw her money in the air and got away again. The Prince made the guard find every woman in the town to try on the little shoe. When the stepsisters went out to try on the shoe, the orphan did not wait long before she opened her trunk and put on the clothes. She went to the palace and the shoe fit her. A few weeks later the Prince and Orphan got married.

There were seven blind mice, who were all surprised by something at the pond. It goes through the days of the week and colors to help the mice figure out what is at the pond. (P) The Sourdough Man by Cherie B. Stihler
This is an Alaskan folktale and a fractured fairy tale of the gingerbread man. The grandmother made the sourdough man and it ran away. The grandmother was chasing him, as the ox, Lemming, Raven, Ptarmigan, Arctic Hare, Caribou, Marmot, Golden Eagle, and Arctic Fox all chase him as well. The fox catches him and ate the sourdough bread man while the grandmother baked another one, not a real one this time.

(P) Strega Nona By Tomie de Paola
In a village in the hills of Calabria in Italy, a baby was about to be born. It was rainy and windy, and Giuseppe, a young husband, explained to Zia Rosa, the help, that each of his children were brought into the word by Grandma Concetta, but he does not think she will get to the house in time because of the storm. Grandma Concetta appeared at the door, and said the baby was waiting for her to come and now that she is here the baby will come. The baby girl was born. Grandma Concetta said that the new bambina, meaning baby, will be called Nona and she will become and Strega. When Nona could walk Grandma Concetta took her to gather weeds and herbs for her lotions and potions. Grandma Concetta was a Strega, which means that people came to her for cures and advice on many things. She shows Nona what rosmarino (rosemary) and aglio sevatico (wild garlic) are used for. When Nona was ready for school, she was sent to the convent and met little Amelia there. They became best friends and did a lot together. They would always visit Grandma Concetta, because they both wanted to be Stregas someday. After the girls were done at the convento, the convent school, they went to Accademia Delle Streghe, the Academy for Stregas. They learned all their magic there. Amelia loved the city and shopping and learning the new scientific ways to do spells, but Nona liked Grandma Concetta’s ways better. So Amelia stayed at the Academy, while Nona came and learned her magic from Grandma Concetta. Every day Nona learned something new, but could not understand how the magic Pasta Pot worked. Amelia came home to visit, and showed Nona showed a spell on how to move things up. She put a Capra (goat) on the tetto (roof). Amelia left, and Nona was upset because she paraded her diploma that Nona will never get. Grandma Concetta tells her you don’t need a diploma to prove you are a true Strega. She said you need spirit and kindness, and when she is older she will pass the secret ingredient over to her. When Grandma Concetta decided to retire, she called over Nona and gave Nona her house, spells, herbs, and remedies, and tells her that from now on she will be called Strega Nona. Later, she found a letter in the magic Pasta Pot. The letter read, if she wants pasta she must sing the song at the bottom of the page, and when she wants to the pasta to stop, she must sing the second song. She must also blow kisses because the ingrediente segreto is love. The two songs rhyme and are cute little songs. Everyone then loved Strega Nona, but she become old, so in town she put up sign and the book ends saying “The Rest is History."

(P) Swamp Angel By Anne Isaacs
On August 1, 1815, Angelica Longrider was born scarcely taller than her mother, but no one would be able to tell that she would become the greatest woods woman in Tennessee. At two years old she built her first log cabin and by the time she was full grown she was preforming gracious tasks. One day a wagon got stuck in a swamp and the family abandoned all hope until an “angel” pulled the wagon out of the swamp and saved their lives. From this day on Angelica was known as the Swamp Angel In the summer, a big bear the people named Thundering Tarnation would eat up all the food the people had. The settlers put out a hit on the bear so that they could kill the bear so that the families could find more food for the long winter ahead. The person who killed the bear would win the title Champion Wildcat. A bunch of men lined up to go kill the bear and the Swamp Angel was in the back of the line. The men did not like that a women was in line for a man’s job. She turned down the hoots and stayed in line. All the men in line before her did not get the bear, and she was the last hope. She decided to fight the bear and they wrestled. They fought for four days straight until Tarnation pinned Angel down in a fifty foot deep lake. She drank that lake so that she would not drown. She then opened her tobacco pouch into Tarnation’s nose. He sneezed and Angel and a bunch of mud went flying. They fought so long that they fell asleep and they both fought then in their sleep. They both snored so loud that they snored down half the forest. When Tarnation was getting a lick of honey because he hadn’t eaten in five day, Angel‘s loud snore made the tree fall right on top of Tarnation; Tarnation was dead That night, all the town ate Tarnation and the leftovers filled their basements with enough food to get them through winter. Angel took the pelt and used it as a rug in her new home town in Montana, and people call the rug the Short grass Prairie. The book ends with saying that when Angel through the bear into the sky he hit stars and now every night you can still see Tarnation in the stars.

(P) There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose! by Lucille Colandro
The book is a remake. The book starts out with an Old Lady swallowing a rose, lace, glitter, candy, jewels, hearts, cards, and blew a big kiss with all of the things she swallowed. She then smiled and the end of the book says Happy Valentine's Day.

(P) The Three Pigs By David Wiesner
The book starts out with saying once there were three pigs, and the first pig built a house out of straw. The wolf then came along and blew the house down after saying “little pig, little pig let me in”, to which the pig responded, “Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin. The wolf then blew the house down and tried to eat the pig, but the pig says he was blown right out of the story. The wolf then found the second pig who built a house of sticks. The wolf once again blew the house down and tried to eat the pig up, but the first pig was behind the page telling the other pig to come with him because it is safe. The third pig built a house of bricks and then the pages start to fly away as the third pig asked the two other pigs how they didn’t get eaten. The three pigs are together and explore the pages of the book that they destroyed the pages to. They build a paper airplane with the pages and fly around the book. They crash the plane, and they find another page and pull it down. They found the nursery rhyme of Hey Diddle Diddle, but the pigs got scared and got out of there. They then went into another book, where a king wanted the gold behind the dragon and his son was going to kill the dragon to get the gold. The three pigs told the dragon to come with them and they rescued him. The pigs look through pages, and the one pig found a brick house that he built. They decided to go home with the dragon and the cat with the fiddle. They returned into the brick house, and when the wolf tried to blow down the house the dragon came out and scared the wolf away. Then book end with them all

The country mice then were looking around for food, but instead the wife got stuck. The town mice put on their brightly colored jacket and went for a stroll. On their stroll a black bird saw the brightly colored jacket and almost took the husband away, but he wiggled out. The country mouse’s tail was not broken, but she was discouraged. Her husband went to the small window and said to her doesn’t it look like home. The town mice were scared then, and both agree that they miss their cozy town home. The country mice knew all about the scares of the forest, but did not know what the mouse trap was before the husband was flung across the room. Then the house cat came out of nowhere and almost snatched them both up.
The town mice knew to avoid the mousetraps and the cat, but didn’t know to avoid the thunderstorm, owls and all the other predators around the forest. The town mice had enough and ran as fast as they could back to town. The country mice also had enough and ran as fast as they could to the country. The two couples made their way back home and realized that there is no place like him. The book ends with the cat and the owl waking up after they ran into each other. The cat asked if they want to switch places and try a simpler life in the country.

(P) We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
A family was going on a bear hunt. They made their way through the grass, the river, the mud, the forest, the snowstorm, and cave. They then found the bear. They then ran back through the cave, the snowstorm, the forest, the mud, the river and the grass all the way to their house. They ran under the covers and agreed to never go back hunting again.
