This book is a very optimist book on cancer and how widely known it is., but these two people fought and won against cancer.

(C) Mockingbird By Kathryn Erskine
This book is about a Caitlin whose brother Devon died in a school shooting that devastated the community. Caitlin has Aspergers and does not like to be touched or talk to people. Shes sees a counselor to help her with schol and becomes friends with a boy who turns out to have lost his mother in the same school shooting. Caitlin decides she needs closure in her brother's death and reads a ton of books but it does not help her. She needs to do something else so her and her dad finish the chest that Devon was building for boy scouts. They donate the chest to the school and Caitlin makes two friends that were both affected by the shooting that occurs. I really like this book because it’s about
understanding. It has two themes; one is the understanding of a child with a
disability, like Asperger and also the understanding of school shootings. I
think these are two major topics that need to be talked about in an elementary
and middle school level. This book is quite an emotional book, but I really
liked it.

(P) Uncle Willie and the Soup Kitchen By: DyAnne Sisalvo-Ryan
This book is about a boy who goes to the soup kitchen that his Uncle Willie works out. The boy explores the soup kitchen and learns what the soup kitchen does and how it helps so many people around. I like this book because I think a lot of children do not understand poverty and being hungry because its hard to understand something that is not happening to them. I also like this book because it adds well known characters like the Can Man and the lady sleeping on the bench which children might see in their town and wonder about.
